Director General

Shri G.V.L Satya Kumar is from Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) 1991 Batch.

An alumnus of IIT Madras (B.Tech.) and the University of Melbourne (MBA)

He has served as Head of Operations in various Divisions of Railways including Waltair, Palghat etc. and was also Deputy Chairman/Chairman of Visakhapatnam Port Trust. He worked in Zonal HQs of Central and Southern Railways as Head of Marketing and Safety. He has also been as Executive Director/Strategy Planning & Implementation, Director (Accounting Reforms, Railway Board) in Ministry of Railways.

Afterwards, he shouldered the responsibilities of Divisional Railway Manager in Mumbai and later, Managing Director, Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), Ministry of Railways. He has been at the forefront of modernising passenger services, strengthening mission-critical digital platforms, and driving transformative IT systems across one of the world’s largest rail networks. Under his stewardship, CRIS has been advancing data-driven operations, AI-enabled mobility solutions, and next-generation digital public infrastructure for the Indian Railways.

Presently, working as Director General at Indian Railways Institute of Transport Management, Lucknow. Along with this responsibility, he will also hold the additional charge of Managing Director of the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), under the Ministry of Railways.
